Thymosin β-4 is an endogenous pro-angiogenic, fibroblast-activating peptide that is involved in hormone regulation. It is a 5-kDa polypeptide originally identified in calf thymus. Thymosin β-4 also exhibits immunomodulatory and cardioprotective activities. Thymosin beta 4 is composed of 43 amino acid residues with acetyl serine at the NH2 terminus.

Uses Thymosin β-4 improves would healing in cardiac issue and improves cardiac function in vivo. Thymosin β-4 binds G-actin filaments, preventing actin polymerization. Thymosin beta 4 (Tβ4) was found to promote wound healing in full-thickness skin wounds and heptanol-debrided corneas.

One of the clones, thymosin β4, previously not known to be associated with endothelial cells, nor known to be involved in their cell regulation, was found by northern analysis to increase at early times (over a 6 hour period) in cells on Matrigel. Alternatively, thymosin β4 may have additional biological actions yet to be defined.
